Our Drawing Fundamentals for fashion design course is an introduction to structure, form, and tone using the human figure. This drawing course explores both traditional and alternative media, drawing styles, techniques, and materials. A series of exercises help you learn classical drawing principles and basic structure and anatomy. Build on that knowledge by learning perspective drawing, shading techniques, and contour drawing as well as the techniques used in line art, fashion scathing and drawing, fashion painting techniques.

Course Outline: Introduction to model drawing with wet media such as inks, watercolor, and others. Course topics provide the platform for line, value and preliminary color studies using wet media: contour types, gesture, controlled, expressive, texture generations, etc.

• use transparent watercolor media to achieve a variety of effects in the model drawing.
• use color mixing to achieve local color.
• work with the varied fashion design and costume design subject matter.

Students learn how to create their own designs from conception to construction. After an introduction to Fashion Design and Illustration, students create Mood Boards ( The Purpose of Mood Boards. A mood board is a way to collect different creative information in order to prepare for a new project. It is a segue between initial thoughts or meeting and the first draft of your project) and will learn how to sketch their own fashion garments. Then students will learn how to cut & construct their designs with guidance on basic sewing and fabric & trim selection.

What is Pattern Making?
Pattern making is essential in learning in Fashion Design and how garments are created and put together. A fashion designer or fashion design instructor must learn pattern making in order to really understand the construction of fashion designs.
In this course students will learn:
- Basic Principles of pattern-making such as Dart Manipulation and Added Fullness and Contour.
- Students will learn techniques such as Pivoting and Slash-and-Spread.
- New terminology such as Slopers and Blocks and Darts, Pleats, Tucks, Yokes, Princess Seams, Shirring, Apex, Notches.

Cutting for Sewing Techniques
Module 1. Aim of this module:
To make students understand different cutting techniques according to different materials which will be beneficial for home-based and industry. Introduction to cutting tools home-based and industrial for woven, knitwear and leather.
– Importance of grain line while cutting woven, knitwear and leather. Proper pressing techniques before cutting.
Aim of this module:
– Introduction to the sewing machine, home-based and industrial. Threading of lock stitch, Flatlock, and overlock machine.
– To make students understand different sewing methods while working with different machines/equipment (which can be home-based or industrial) and fabrics that require special handling and care.
