Global Internet system is rightly considered to be one of the greatest inventions of the twentieth century. The Internet conquered the whole world before our very eyes and it keeps developing at an astonishing rate. Below are some milestones in the development of the Internet:
1963 - Head of the ARPA computer laboratory John C.R. Licklider suggested the first elaborate computer net concept (ARPANET). 1974 - The first commercial version of APRANET called Telenet was set up. 1977 - The number of hosts reached one hundred. 1982 - The birth of the present-day INTERNET. ARPA created united net language TCP/IP. 1984 - Over 1,000 hosts. 1989 - Over 10,000 hosts. 1991 - European physical laboratory CERN created the protocol now well-known www - World Wide Web protocol. 1993 - 2 million hosts and 600 sites. 1996 - 12.8 million hosts and 500,000 sites. 2002 - Internet connects 689 million people and 172 millions hosts. New Internet technologies are created, changing the "old Internet" and creating new possibilities.
As the Internet grows, the demand for specialists such as web designers continues to rise.
