3D Animation Using Maya and 3ds Max - Level 1. Age: 12 to 17 |
Love 3D movies and games? Thinking about a career in 3D? Using Maya, learn basic modeling, animation, and rendering, and complete your own short 3D animated film by the end of the course. Prerequisite:
Familiarity with computers and Windows.

This course includes: In this course, you will learn basic modeling, animation, lighting and rendering. By the end of course you will have a polygon modeled 3D character and short animation.
Who Should Take This Course?
This course is designed for teens between the ages of 12 and 17 who show an interest in how 3D environments and characters are made.
Duration and costs:
The course lasts for 36 weeks. Classes are held once a week and the duration of each session is 2 hours. Tuition is $59 for a week.
Starting time: New courses start every four weeks. New students take a placement test and are placed in a group at a suitable level.
3D Animation - Level 1
Course Objectives
- Navigate Maya using its GUI.
- Explain Maya hierarchies and 3D Space.
- Draw a character for modeling purposes.
- Manipulate polygon primitives.
- Use the following beginning polygon tools: edge selection, extrude, combine, bridge, split polygon, insert and offset edge loop, sculpt geometry.
- Create a 3D character using Image planes.
- Create materials (textures) using Hypershade.
- Create color, bump and transparency maps.
- Use IPR for rendering.
- Create and position lights.
- Create depth map and raytraced shadows.
- Animate using key frames.
- Manipulate the graph editor using tangents.
- Practice the principles of squash and stretch.
- Render using the software render process.
- Import into premier.

Familiarity with Computers and Windows
